Welcome (cont’d)
Summer is quickly approaching. It’s a time to celebrate Dads and Grads with parties and picnics. Speaking of picnics, NN is sponsoring informational picnics this summer across the country! Mostly being held in major metropolitan areas, these are opportunities to meet and socialize with other people with Narcolepsy and their families. Perhaps this will be a springboard event for the start of a local support group. Watch this website for information about when and where these will be held.
As you may have heard, The Stanford University Center for Narcolepsy at has applied for a Pepsi Refresh Everything Contest grant for $250,000. The money will be used to participate in an international ImmunoChip study of autoimmune disorders. Please help fund this important research by going to the contest website at http://www.refresheverything.com/narcolepsyimmunochipproject to vote daily for the project. Also encourage your friends and family to vote.
A recent NN newsletter featured a summarization of a paper written by Dr. Neil Feldman titled “Diagnosing and Treating Older Adults with Narcolepsy”. You will find Dr. Feldman’s entire paper here, which includes a list of cited research studies.
Although our annual conference isn’t until October, the planning committee is hard at work organizing and arranging programs and events. “NN in 2010 Decade of Hope” is our theme this year. We’ll celebrate the great strides made in the recent past and look forward to the future decade with hope for improved medications, better awareness by the public and fair treatment in the work and school environment. We are also planning to visit our legislator’s offices to advocate for narcolepsy research funding on Friday, October 8th. Watch this website for more information as it becomes available.
The Board of Trustees, Office staff and I wish you a happy and safe summer!
